Identify 30 mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies terms for each grade level in grades K-8 or grades 1-8. High schools may wish to identify critical terms for entering freshmen or for students who appear to be lacking in basic subject matter knowledge.
Have teacher leaders experiment with the six-step instructional process and student notebooks, collecting formal or informal data.
Phase 2
Based on feedback from teacher leaders, design a protocol for the scheduling of vocabulary instruction and the six-step process.
Implement the vocabulary program districtwide.
