MRL Associates - David Livingston

David Livingston, PhD, is an associate with MRL, who specializes in school and district-level leadership and school improvement. Dr. Livingston also serves as coordinator for the Western States Benchmarking Consortium, a group of superintendents and senior district staff from seven high-performing school districts that meets three times a year to benchmark leadership best practices. From 2005 to 2008, Dr. Livingston was a member of the McREL professional development cadre. He has also served as an elementary school teacher and principal, executive director of elementary education, and adjunct professor.
Dr. Livingston was an elementary teacher for 10 years, first with District #89 in Maywood, Illinois, and then with the Cherry Creek Schools in Denver, Colorado. Over the next 20 years, he served as principal of four elementary schools, three in Cherry Creek and one in West Linn, Oregon. From 1998 to 2005, he was executive director of elementary education for Cherry Creek. Dr. Livingston also was an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado at Denver and a member of the board of trustees for Stanley British Primary School, also in Denver.
Dr. Livingston holds a PhD in history and philosophy of education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an MA in urban education from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He began teaching with the Teacher Corps in 1968 after graduating from Wheaton College with a BA in literature.
