David Yanoski
Researcher

Hi, I’m David. After 15 years of teaching middle school in rural and urban schools in Colorado, I joined Marzano Research as a researcher in 2008. I thrive on supporting teachers and schools to capitalize on what they are doing well and using data to reflect on and improve systems and practices. I earned an EdD from the University of Colorado Denver in Leadership for Educational Equity – Professional Learning and Technology, a BA in Secondary Education from Midland University, and a MA in Education from the University of Phoenix.

My areas of expertise include competency-based education, Teacher as Researcher, rural education, teacher recruitment and retention, and anything to do with standards. I love providing professional development, facilitation, coaching, and technical assistance in all these areas, as well as contributing to and leading research projects and conducting qualitative research. I am a co-author of numerous reports and two books, Using Common Core Standards to Enhance Classroom Instruction and Assessment and Proficiency Scales for the New Science Standards.

When not working with schools or conducting research, I can be found:

  • Flyfishing
  • Hiking and backpacking
  • Playing with my kayak
  • Planning my next travel adventure
  • Curled up with a good book

I believe in giving back to the world as a volunteer with:

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife
  • Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado
  • Historicorps
