Caitlin Scott
Director

Greetings! I’m Caitlin Scott, a director at Marzano Research. I love my job because I get to work with collaborative teams, using research and evaluation to help educators make positive changes that benefit all students. I have more than 20 years of experience in education, including as a teacher, a tutor/trainer, an evaluator, a researcher, a research manager, and a director. In all this work, I’ve focused on educator learning and change, and on improving education systems, especially for rural communities and students traditionally underserved by public schools. I earned my doctorate in teaching and learning at Cleveland State University, my master of teaching degree in special education at the University of Virginia, and my bachelor’s degree at Oberlin College.

Before coming to Marzano Research, I was the research director for the Learning Policy Institute, where I created and managed systems to ensure high-quality research products. I was also formerly a research manager at Education Northwest and a consultant at the Center on Education Policy. I’ve led large-scale projects in Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Washington, Wyoming, and other states. I’m a product of the Little Rock public schools in Arkansas, where my mother served on the state board of education. She taught me at an early age that public education is essential to well-being, both for individuals and society at large.

Classic books that shaped my life:

  • Savage Inequalities by Jonathon Kozol
  • Beloved by Alice Walker
  • Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
  • The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
  • Anything by Isabella Allende, Marguerite Duras, or Jane Austen

You can often find me:

  • Reading
  • Hiking with friends or colleagues, optimally while talking about books and ideas
  • Planning something amazing for the future

My aspiration:

  • Making your life, as a learner and educator, more powerful
