John’s interest in education began after immigrating to the United States and realizing the impact of his principal’s guidance on his educational path. That interest grew into a passion for education improvement while working on education-related topics in the Nebraska legislature.

As senior education improvement specialist at Marzano Research, John leads, supports, and provides technical assistance on a variety of projects; develops and manages relationships with stakeholders; and provides direct services to state and local education agencies and higher education and nonprofit organizations.

John brings years of broad strategic and operational executive management experience across multiple sectors to Marzano Research. He led and participated in interim legislative studies as staff to a Nebraska state senator, worked as an analyst in institutional planning and analysis at the University of Arizona, and taught research courses while serving as vice president of planning and research for a private higher education management consulting company. Most recently, John was vice president of government affairs for Apollo Education Group. He subsequently managed the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA) program for distance education across 16 states and territories for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) while serving as its chief administrative officer.

John earned his master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his doctorate in higher education specializing in management and policy from the University of Arizona. He also received the Institute for Education Management certificate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
