Because children’s futures are shaped by what they learn in schools, Joshua believes that sound practices in education, informed by research, are key to helping students realize their highest abilities.

As senior researcher at Marzano Research, Joshua serves as principal investigator or lead on a variety of technical assistance and research projects involving, for example, program evaluations, applied research studies, data collection and analysis, and development of educator evaluation systems. He has expertise in quantitative research methods, experimental and quasi-experimental designs, cross-cultural research, and instrument design and validation.

Joshua has a decade of experience in collaborating with international, federal, state, and local education stakeholders to improve student learning outcomes, evaluate programs, increase educator retention, and assess teacher effectiveness. He has worked on an Institute of Education Sciences grant to evaluate a supplemental mathematics program in rural Mississippi schools, and led a Kansas State Department of Education project aimed at developing feedback tools for students, parents, and staff. He also participated in a multiyear formative evaluation to improve the implementation and impact of an HIV awareness program in South Africa, and supported the development of school administrator evaluation instruments for the Department of Education and Training in Victoria, Australia.

Joshua earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in educational psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. He is a What Works Clearinghouse-certified reviewer for group design standards and has completed training in randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental designs through the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University.
