Matt believes in the power of education to transform, empower, and liberate. As a senior education improvement specialist, he also believes in the need to create education systems that make the promise of education available to all students, especially our most vulnerable and marginalized youth.
At Marzano Research, Matt provides support and technical assistance to a variety of state, district, and nonprofit partners, with a focus on school improvement, college and career readiness, Native and rural education, and dropout prevention.
Matt has over 20 years of experience in education as a teacher, consultant, and school and district administrator. This experience includes district and state-level strategic planning, directing an Education Innovation and Research grant, leading alternative schools, and running Portland Public Schools’ dropout recovery system.
Matt earned a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Oregon and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UCLA.
