Carrie Germeroth
Managing Senior Researcher

Hello, I’m Carrie, and I’m a Managing Senior Researcher at Marzano Research. My expertise is in early childhood development and learning, with a focus on math, literacy, and social-emotional development of children, and parent support and education, particularly with under-resourced populations (e.g., low-income households, refugees, and immigrants). I also have extensive experience in leading and managing research projects designed to improve outcomes for parents’ and childrens’ health and well-being. I earned my bachelor’s of science in psychology at Vanderbilt University and doctoral degree in experimental psychology with a focus on cognitive development from the University of Louisville. I had the privilege to attend a quasi-experimental design workshop through the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University and a hierarchical linear modeling course at the University of Chicago. I am a proponent of learning through play and have authored several research publications on the topic of playful learning.

I am originally from Louisville, KY, the city where the Kentucky Derby runs, as the locals pronounce LOO-a-vul, not to be confused with the Colorado (Ca-luh-RAH-do) LOU-iss-vill. I fell in love with the Rocky Mountains over two decades ago while working as a preschool day camp counselor at the YMCA of the Rockies. If I’m not shuttling one of my 4 girls to ballet, you can find me getting lost on one of Colorado’s high country peaks.

Night Owl or Early Bird:

  • Both…4 kids under 10 leaves exactly no time for sleep, but if I had the choice, I’d be an early bird.

What I Can’t Live Without:

  • My family, my mountains, dessert, and sunshine.

My Shangri-la:

  • Involves one train, 3 mountain peaks, bean water, and a bunch of tent-eating goats…you will have to message me to find out the exact location.

Words I live by:

  • “Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today!”
