Between 2002 and 2007, a large school district in Illinois implemented a “District Literacy Roadmap” with a focus on direct vocabulary instruction at all grade levels using Marzano’s six-step process. This report summarizes the implementation and continuation process over five years and reflects on four important lessons learned as a result.
